This is where I’ll be sharing any new/old songs that capture my interest, from any genre. I’m aiming to update this with a new song everyday along with my scattered thoughts on the track.  Enjoy!

Alvvays – In Undertow

This song is all I’ve been listening to lately on the commute to and from work. Alvvays is back, and they’ve brought some changes with them! Judging from this track, gone is the surf-pop of their self-titled debut, having been replaced with some mesmerizingly spacey dream pop. And this is a MUCH welcome change. I personally loved their first album and the 50s sailor aesthetic it came packaged in, but I was always wondering where they would go from there. Would they stick to their trademark style, or branch off into something new. Evidently, they’ve chosen the latter, and I’m all for it. I know it’s a little overambitious to say, but I think Antisocialites could snatch the Album Of The Year title away from Paramore if the rest of their album is as good as this song.

Lil Uzi Vert – XO TOUR Llif3

It seems rap has finally hit its emo phase. We’ve got a ton of artists, like XXXTentacion and Playboi Carti, coming out of the woodwork right now who appear to be pushing the genre outside of its comfort zone, much to the dismay of oldheads everywhere. And thus far, I think “XO TOUR Llif3” is the crowning achievement of this phenomenon. I haven’t heard a trap song with this much emotion and pain since A$AP Ferg’s “Hood Pope.” Although, on first listen, you might not hear just how depressing this song is: Uzi is breaking down over how dependent he is on using Xanax to cope with fame and his girl leaving him, but given how infectious this beat is and how melodic his flow is, you can’t help but sing along — “PUSH ME TO THE EDGE, ALL MY FRIENDS ARE DEAD.” Yup. It seems that depressing lyrics paired with exciting pop production is the new thing right now.
